Difference between Laparoscopic surgery and Robotic surgery in Gastrointestinal surgery

Although both methods are minimally invasive surgeries, there are some additional benefits to robotic surgery

In robotic surgery, the surgeon operates from a console and hand controls the tools used for surgery

With robotic surgery, the range of movements is all round and wider as the instruments are “wristed” (have wrist like features)

The imagery in robotic surgery is three dimensional, high definition and magnified, which makes the surgery more precise

  1. In laparoscopic surgery, the surgeon inserts tools and a video assisted camera into the abdomen and performs the surgery using tools operated by his hands
  2. With laparoscopic surgery, the range of movements of the tools are limited to up and down or side to side
  3. The video images associated with laparoscopic surgery are two dimensional
