May 11, 2021

Patients returning home with two hands with a corona are now also at risk of mucomycosis.Patients with low immunity have to deal with this life threatening disease. If this disease is not treated in time, blindness occurs. Patients are also at risk if the case becomes serious, said Columbia Asia Hospital's infectious disease consultant Dr.Presented by Mahesh Lakhe.

Hundreds of patients are being found in Maharashtra and Gujarat. Many have also died. This infection of mucormycosis is caused by a fungal group called mucormycocytosis. The fungus is present throughout the environment, especially in soil, leaves, compost blocks and animal dung. It is more common in soil than in air and in summer than in winter. Many people are exposed to micro-fungal spores on a daily basis. That is why it is impossible to avoid complete contact with mucomyocytes.

These fungi are not harmful to most people. However, people who have a weakened immune system. It can cause infections in the lungs or sinuses through the breath of such people. Which can spread to other parts of the body. Patients with Covid 19 have a weakened immune system. That is why the disease is spreading among them more rapidly.

The correlation between covid-19 and mucormycosis is unknown. However, steroids are used in Kovid-19 to reduce the inflammation of the lungs. Uncontrolled use of steroids on corona patients is dangerous. Causing some damage. It also lowers immunity. Kovid-19 raises blood sugar levels in both diabetics and non-diabetics. Patients with uncontrolled diabetes, who have taken steroids, or who have had long-term ICUs are more likely to develop the condition, said infectious disease consultant Dr. Arun Suradkar said.

The government (ICMR) has issued detailed guidelines on mucorrhoea. Including the proper use of steroids. Use clean and distilled water for humidifiers during oxygen therapy. Control hyperglycemia in patients. Check the blood glucose level after the patient of Kovid 19 is cured. Strictly monitor diabetic patients. Create special teams of microbiologists, internal medicine / infectious disease specialists, antibiotics, neurologists, ENTs, ophthalmologists, dental surgeons (maxillofacial / plastic) and biochemists to treat such cases properly.

Do not ignore the symptoms of the disease. Take special care especially in the case of Covid-19 patients on immunoprecipitation or immunomodulators. Do not hesitate to find out the fungal etiology. Make the necessary diagnosis immediately. Don’t miss the crucial time to start treatment on myocardial infarction, appeals Dr. Mahesh Lakhe has done it.
