With an intention of controlling the spread of COVID-19 infection, India has continued its focus on vaccinating frontline workers to senior citizens, as they are vulnerable to the virus. This move from the government has come as a sigh of relief to the senior citizens as many were waiting to get vaccinated.

Talking about the vaccination drive, Dr Gautam Das, general manager, Columbia Asia Hospital Mysuru, said “We have started the vaccination for seniors aged over 60 and for people aged between 45 and 59 with co-morbidities. As many senior citizens are eagerly waiting to get vaccinated, this drive will bring their wait to an end. The Covid-19 vaccine for senior citizens will be voluntary. However it is advisable to take the complete course of vaccination to gain immunity against the virus and limiting the spread of virus.”

He also stressed the need to continue wearing face masks and maintain social distancing to stay safe.

After receiving the first dose of vaccination, Dr Sultana Jabeen, retired professor of economics from a private college in Mysuru, said “ Columbia Asia Hospital was my preferred hospital for the vaccination drive as it has been my regular place for health-related needs. When they started the drive, I registered and now I have got the first jab of a vaccine. There was no discomfort or pain after we were injected. We were asked by the hospital to wait for half an hour in the waiting lounge for observation. The entire process was made hassle free for the senior citizens. I would like to appreciate the coordination of all the doctors and staff at the hospital.”
