At birth

  • Check-up immediately after birth by a pediatrician and categorization as normal/ premature/ low birth weight or sick
  • Breathing pattern: regularity, rate of breaths per minute, (periodicity), chest retractions while breathing, labored breathing, or sudden period of cessation of breathing
  • Heart rate, rhythm and regularity
  • Color of the skin: cyanotic, pink
  • Resuscitative care if needed
  • Check for any congenital anomalies, malformations
  • Any anomalies identified during pregnancy will be appropriately addressed for intervention

First 10 days

  • Feeding problems: exclusive breast feeding
